domain name registrar
An organization that manages Internet domain names. Any person or company that wants a presence on the Internet must register a unique name with one of the more than thousand registrars around the world. In the U.S., registrars such as Network Solutions (www.networksolutions.com) and Go Daddy (www.godaddy.com) are very popular. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) maintains a list of accredited registrars (see ICANN). See Internet domain name, Network Solutions and Go Daddy.
