Setup for a survey instrument that is leveled manually will be the same for a dumpy level or a laser plane level.
Transits are dumpy levels that provide a means for measuring horizontal and vertical angles.
An automatic level has all the features of a dumpy level but is easier to use.
The process of setting up a transit is identical to that of a dumpy level.
They consist of a dumpy level with a telescope that has a few degrees of vertical movement.
This process requires several hours of practice before an individual can level an instrument quickly because dumpy levels use a four-screw, four-leg, leveling mechanism.
Some are more accurate and more precise than dumpy levels, but all are less accurate and precise than transits and total stations.
