(mechanical engineering)
An electric machine used to sand the surface of wood, metal, or other material.
A device attached to a locomotive or electric rail car which sands the rails to increase friction on the driving wheels.

Among our faves are his tips on renting an electric sander on a Saturday instead of a weekday because you'll get it for the entire weekend and won't have to return it until Monday morning (more time for less money); and when painting, he suggests that you poke holes in the rim with a nail and hammer so the paint will drip back into the can instead of down the sides and on the floor.
How-to: 1) Use an electric sander (have an adult help) to sand pickets (and two long pieces of wood that measure the width of your bed) until smooth.
He did do some smoothing with an electric sander before applying paint and wood preservative, though.
