e-mail spoofing
The unauthorized use of a third-party domain name as the sender's name in an e-mail message. Most often used by spammers, spoofing the name of a popular retailer or organization entices the recipient to read the full message. See e-mail authentication, spoofing and spam.

Turnbull admitted Rudd was off the hook over the 'Utegate' affair but denied any blame over the email forgery, which saw his case against the prime minister backfire badly.
But Rudd dismissed the correspondence as "false, fictitious and a forgery" and turned the attack on the opposition, describing the events as the "sordid Turnbull email forgery affair.
It provides email users protection against email forgery and related phishing attacks by verifying the domain of the sender.
