A pseudo-HTML tag used in chat rooms, e-mail, and newsgroup postings to express some feeling or emotion. They mimic the format of actual HTML tags; for example, someone might key in the following: <SMIRK>Wow! I'll bet that hurt a lot!</SMIRK>. See emoticon.
