endpoint security Diagnosing the current status of a user's desktop computer, laptop or mobile device when it connects to the network. Also called, "network access protection" (NAP), endpoint security ensures that the user's machine is not a staging ground for viruses and Trojans. With endpoint security software required in both the client and server side, it determines if the operating system, Web browser and other applications are up-to-date before allowing access. It also checks the status of the antivirus signatures, client firewall and other security components. If a device is deemed non-compliant, it is either updated, or access is declined. See network access control and lock down. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
