event

An action initiated either by the user or the computer. An example of a user event is any mouse movement or a keystroke. An example of an internally generated event is a notification based on the time of day. See event driven, event handler and event management system.

(computer science)
The moment of time at which a specified change of state occurs; usually marks the completion of an asynchronous input/output operation.
(geology)
An incident of probable tectonic significance, but whose full implications are unknown.
(industrial engineering)
A specified accomplishment in a program at a particular time; appears as a node in a graphic representation of an endeavor with a specific objective (project).
(physics)
A point in space-time.
(statistics)
A mathematical model of the result of a conceptual experiment; this model is a measurable subset of a probability space.

1.(software)event - An occurrence or happening of significance to a task or program, such as the completion of an asynchronous input/output operation. A task may wait for an event or any of a set of events or it may (request to) receive asynchronous notification (a signal or interrupt) that the event has occurred.
