extended partition

Also found in: Wikipedia 0.01 sec.
extended partition
In an x86 PC, it is a hard disk partition that can be subdivided into additional partitions. For example, the C: drive typically occupies one of the four primary partitions available. However, another primary partition can be designated as an extended partition, and drives D:, E: and F: could be assigned to that extended partition. See partition and primary partition.
