Economics another word for depression 3. a slipping of earth or rock; landslide slump [sləmp] (geology) A type of landslide characterized by the downward slipping of a mass of rock or unconsolidated debris, moving as a unit or several subsidiary units, characteristically with backward rotation on a horizontal axis parallel to the slope; common on natural cliffs and banks and on the sides of artificial cuts and fills.
