Ferrite-Rod Antenna

    0.01 sec.
ferrite-rod antenna [′fe‚rīt ¦räd an′ten·ə]
(electromagnetism)
An antenna consisting of a coil wound on a rod of ferrite; used in place of a loop antenna in radio receivers. Also known as ferrod; loopstick antenna.

Ferrite-Rod Antenna

a magnetic antenna with a core consisting of a ferrite rod. The high magnetic susceptibility of ferrites makes it possible to construct ferrite-rod antennas that, for identical induced electromotive forces, are much smaller than conventional loop antennas, which have no core.
