fiber laserA laser that is constructed within an optical fiber. It is similar in concept to gas lasers and laser diodes, except that a part of the fiber itself is used as the resonating cavity where the laser action takes place. A laser diode is used as a pump, and mirrors accept the pump wavelength on one side and transmit the lased wavelength on the other.

com) the use of fiber laser systems can provide a variety of advantages versus YAG or C[O. The phase-locked frequency comb is based on a mode-locked, erbium-doped, fiber laser whose output is amplified and spectrally broadened in novel dispersion-flattened, highly non-linear optical fiber to span from 1100 nm to 2200 nm. The 2X expansion ratio is particularly useful for fiber laser and excimer laser users and manufacturers. |
