No references found | According to the ISTH Subcommittee on DIC, major laboratory criteria for the diagnosis of overt DIC include platelet count, prothrombin time, fibrinogen level, and a marker of the presence of fibrin, which can be ascertained by one of the following assays: soluble fibrin monomer, fibrin degradation products, and/or D-dimer. Furthermore, in the Phase I study of BB-10153, evidence of proof-of-concept fibrinolytic activity was obtained in ex vivo clot lysis assays and in vivo production of fibrin degradation products. For example, fibrin degradation products can cause falsely elevated fibrinogen antigen values when using sulphite precipitation, (35) thrombin clotting, (35) and some immunologic methods, (33) Falsely decreased fibrinogen antigen values can occur with the heat precipitation method in the presence of fibrin degradation products, (33) cryoglobulins, (34) and high plasma viscosity. |
