Histologically, there was a fibroplastic proliferation with osteoclast-like polynuclear giant cells, newly formed osteoid trabeculae, lymphocytic infiltrates, macrophages, and hemosiderin deposits (figure 2, A).
Normal wound healing is characterized by 3 overlapping phases: inflammatory, proliferative or fibroplastic, and remodeling.
It was suggested that the "proliferant" injections then served to reverse the incompetence of lumbar and sacroiliac ligaments by inducing fibroplastic hyperplasia and stimulating growth of collagen.
