The exhibition began with a focus on the "Origins of Pottery in Africa," featuring a series of interesting figural and nonfigural vessels from the Middle Niger region of Mali. In a city defined by the Jeffersonian grid, the library pulls away from the orthogonal edges of the site to take on a figural character appropriate to its status as a civic institution. His figural work, for which he is best known, included scandalously daring and sexual depictions of nudes. |
