fin keel [′fin ‚kēl]
(naval architecture)
A metal plate or thin fairing attached to the keel of sailing craft to give resistance to lateral motion, and frequently having a cigar-shaped lead bulb at the bottom to give transverse stability. Also known as ballast fin.
