(medicine) A photoelectric photometer used to measure the oxygenated fraction of the hemoglobin in blood which is either circulating in a particular tissue of an intact animal or human being, or during, or shortly after, its withdrawal from the vascular system, by observation of the absorption of light transmitted through or reflected from the blood.
