Firing Range
a specially equipped area for firing small arms and conducting marksmanship training. The average dimensions of firing ranges are approximately 1–2 km across and 5–10 km deep; the size of the average firing range makes it possible to carry on simultaneous fire with different types of weapons and to observe safety precautions. Firing ranges are situated far from population centers, highways, and railroads, navigable rivers, and air routes. The range area includes a target field equipped with mechanical and automated target devices, a danger area, protective lines, open-fire and cease-fire lines, a command point, control points, ammunition issue points, classrooms, various training areas, and other structures at the rear of the range. Firing ranges are usually part of training centers. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
