fixed pixel display

Also found in: Wikipedia 0.01 sec.
fixed pixel display
Refers to LCD computer screens and LCD and plasma TV screens that have a fixed matrix of pixels. If the input signal is not the same resolution as the display, complex algorithms adjust (scale) the resolution up or down to conform to the fixed number of pixels in each row.

In contrast, the CRT's electronics architecture "paints" the screen with the required number of pixels horizontally and vertically. CRT monitors accommodate a range of input resolutions, with each one generally looking like the native resolution of the unit. See DTV and flat panel TV.
