(spectroscopy)
One of several types of instruments used in flame photometry, such as the emission flame photometer and the atomic absorption spectrophotometer, in each of which a solution of the chemical being analyzed is vaporized; the spectral lines resulting from the light source going through the vapors enters a monochromator that selects the band or bands of interest.
