CCTV equipment was disabled before roof tiles were removed and a flammable liquid poured inside.
A 16-year-old boy was being questioned last night after entering a school armed with a knife, matches and a canister of what was thought to be flammable liquid, police said.
It is believed that someone poured flammable liquid through a vent on the side of the property before setting it alight.
