(chemical engineering)
A conventional oil-and-gas separator operated at low pressure, with the liquid from a higher-pressure vessel being flashed into it. Also known as flash trap; flash vessel.

flash chamber
A tank between the expansion valve and evaporator in a refrigeration system to separate and bypass any flash gas formed in the expansion valve.
