floating dock [¦flōd·iŋ ′däk]
(civil engineering)
A form of dry dock for repairing ships; it can be partly submerged by controlled flooding to receive a vessel, then raised by pumping out the water so that the vessel's bottom can be exposed. Also known as floating dry dock.
A barge or flatboat which is used as a wharf.
