| SANTA CLARITA -- A program that allows residents to dump wilted lettuce, potato peelings and other organic food waste in with their yard clippings has been suspended pending a special permit needed for the operation. The city provides a $600,000 annual subsidy to the program, which eliminates about 600 tons of food waste a month from landfills. By July 1, 2007, the city will have to pick up two of the following materials: glass containers, newspapers, plastic containers, green waste or food waste. |
