The UN Forum on Forests was established in 2000 by the UN Economic and Social Council to promote sustainable forest management and strengthen political commitment towards it.
It wasn't the timber industry's decision to effectively abandon sustained yield forest management and reduce federal harvest levels by over 80 percent.
The German Timber Promotion Fund says the German forests are subject to sustained forest management practices, and that the country is one of the leading suppliers of timber on the world market.
