This paper deals with a preliminary study of what appears to be a relict herpetological habitat in the low fossil dune and dune soils area near Saginaw Bay, Michigan, and some observations that have grown out of this study.
Representing a variety of natural environments found in Northern Ohio, including hardwood forest, Lake Erie Island, fossil dune ridge, marsh, swamp and glacial wetland, each of the 26 natural areas managed by the museum has its own unique character, harboring one or more distinct biotic communities adapted to its particular soil, climate, vegetation and geological history.
