fractional distillation 1. the process of separating the constituents of a liquid mixture by heating it and condensing separately the components according to their different boiling points 2. a distillation in which the vapour is brought into contact with a countercurrent of condensed liquid to increase the purity of the final products fractional distillation [¦frak·shən·əl dis·tə′lā·shən] (chemistry) A method to separate a mixture of several volatile components of different boiling points; the mixture is distilled at the lowest boiling point, and the distillate is collected as one fraction until the temperature of the vapor rises, showing that the next higher boiling component of the mixture is beginning to distill; this component is then collected as a separate fraction. The processing capabilities include the following: wipe film evaporation treatment, a unique form of vacuum distillation used to remove impurities from the waste oil and thereby enhancing the quality; atmospheric distillation of oily waste waters, by which oil is separated from water and other impurities are removed; and fractional distillation, whereby products are distilled by multiple cuts according to their various boiling points. |
