Gear-driven supercharger on a radial engine.
A supercharger or an air compressor driven by gears from the crankshaft of a reciprocating engine. The engine drives the supercharger, and the power increase more than compensates for any power loss. Gear-driven superchargers are less efficient than turbochargers.
