gear-driven supercharger
Gear-driven supercharger on a radial engine.
A supercharger or an air compressor driven by gears from the crankshaft of a reciprocating engine. The engine drives the supercharger, and the power increase more than compensates for any power loss. Gear-driven superchargers are less efficient than turbochargers.

Just as research and testing led to their many automotive innovations -- the Shelby GT-350 Mustangs in the '60s and early '70s; being at the forefront of technology in the '80s that produced the first aftermarket supercharged package that was legal in all 50 states; designing a revolutionary gear-driven supercharger in the early '90s that was capable of supporting nearly 1000 hp -- it has produced many air-system successes for the Granatelli's as well.
