Glassfish

(in Russian, lapsha-ryba; Salangichthys micro-don) a fish of the family Salangidae. Length, 8–10 cm; weight, 0.7–1.5 g. The body is almost transparent, and the head is flattened from top to bottom. The glassfish is found in the coastal waters of the southern Sea of Okhotsk, in the Sea of Japan, and near the eastern shores of Japan. In the spring the fish enters the mouths of rivers for spawning; the young enter the sea in autumn. These fish are of little commercial value. A few other species of Salangichthys share the Russian common name lapsha-ryba.
