1) Glomus jugulare tumors arise from glomus bodies or paraganglionic tissue in the adventitia of the jugular bulb, usually in relation to the auricular branches of the vagus and glossopharyngeal nerves. Traumatic neuromas of the head and neck have been reported in the oral cavity, the maxillary division of the trigeminal nerve, the inferior alveolar nerve of the mandible, the auriculotemporal nerve, the glossopharyngeal nerve, and the facial nerve. Another important target in his surgical work was the rehabilitation of swallowing and improvement of the voice in cases of paralysis of caudal cranial nerves, particularly of the vagus and glossopharyngeal nerves. |
