gluten enteropathy [‚glüt·ən ‚ent·ə′räp·ə·thē]
(medicine)
A malabsorption disease characterized by inflammation and loss of the normal architecture of the small intestine following ingestion of some proteins. Also known as celiac sprue, nontropical sprue.

Lieberman strongly believed in the role that gluten enteropathy plays in creating ill health.
We used to get letters from people with gluten enteropathy, which said they could eat this bread, whereas they could not eat ordinary whole wheat bread.
We present the case of a 25-year-old black male who presented to the emergency department with a chief complaint of diffuse abdominal pain 1 day after undergoing EGD and intestinal biopsy for presumed gluten enteropathy and was subsequently found to have severe congestive heart failure secondary to end-stage dilated cardiomyopathy.
