Goliath Frog
(Rana goliath), a tailless amphibious family of true frogs. Basing their view on the ossification of the pectoral girdle, some zoologists separate the goliath frog into a special genus, Gigantorana, which includes this species alone. It was discovered in 1906 in the Cameroons and is found in Rio Muni. The goliath frog is rare. It is the largest member of the family. The body length of adults varies from 32 to 42 cm, and they weigh 3.5 kg (according to unverified data, as much as 6 kg). The goliath frog lives in jungle rivers that abound in rapids. It feeds on crustaceans, insects, fish, frogs, and toads. Reproduction occurs in July and August. Its meat is tasty and is used as food. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
