Greenbelt, city (1990 pop. 21,096), Prince Georges co., W central Md., a residential suburb of Washington, D.C.; chartered 1937. Greenbelt was planned and built by the federal government as an experimental model community for families of modest income. The huge National Agricultural Research Center borders the city on two sides, and the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center is nearby. The City will start the Greenway plan with four short-term projects and additional improvements that will create 1. A bike path links the park with the city of Raleigh greenway system via the longest pedestrian bridge in the state, and a state park. The county has 22 miles of developed and 158 miles of undeveloped greenways, which continue to be built and improved with a Greenway Master Plan, which extends until 2009. |
