heavy lifting
(1) Slang for difficult research and development (R&D). It may refer to challenging technical research for a new electronic product, or it may refer to the actual development of the product.

(2) Slang for intensive processing. For example, it may refer to computations such as decoding an HD video signal or to a particular part of a program that contains the most sophisticated logic.
