[4] The Mid-1980s: A Jumbled Transition By the mid 1980s, it was well recognized that surgical procedures such as cataract removal, tonsillectomies and adenoidectomies (T&A), hernia repairs, hemorrhoidectomies, and laparoscopies could be done on an outpatient basis at less cost and with greater patient satisfaction.
Other applications include the removal of tissue responsible for abnormal uterine bleeding and hemorrhoidectomies.
