a. the reproduction of sound using electronic equipment that gives faithful reproduction with little or no distortion

high fidelity [¦hī fi′del·əd·ē]
(engineering acoustics)
Audio reproduction that closely approximates the sound of the original performance. Also known as hi-fi.
