Germond, who succeeded long-serving PMU chairman Bertrand Belinguier in the summer, after a high-flying career in telecommunications and IT, has already endorsed a strategy not only to enter the sports-betting market but also to protect the position of horserace betting.
Yesterday Minister for Sport Richard Caborn said: "The Government has decided to retain the Horserace Betting Levy Board and the associated horserace betting levy scheme.
Changes were enforced after the government announced it was scrapping the Horserace Betting Levy Board which has been responsible for the funding of racing for 40 years.
