Horseshoe Bend, a turn on the Tallapoosa River, near Dadeville, E central Ala., site of a battle on Mar. 27, 1814, in which the Creeks, led by chief William Weatherford Weatherford, William, c.1780–1824, Native American chief, b. present-day Alabama, also called Red Eagle. I would have begun with Ted Strehlow and his Journey to Horseshoe Bend, certainly the finest non-Aboriginal account of the Australian landscape through Aboriginal eyes. Down the road is Horseshoe Bend, with a drop of nearly 2,000 feet to the river, which is hikeable. They belong to Horseshoe Bend Country Club and Harbor Club in Greensboro. |
