host adapter
Also called a "controller" or "host bus adapter," it is a device that connects one or more peripheral units to a computer. It is typically an expansion card that plugs into the bus. IDE, SATA and SCSI are examples of peripheral interfaces that call their controllers host adapters. See host.

JNI Corporation (Nasdaq:JNIC) has announced that EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC) has qualified JNI's FCX2-6562, a 2Gb dual-port Fibre Channel host bus adapter (HBA) for PCI slots, as E-Lab Tested.
Included in the bundle is the Softek Virtualisation and Softek SANView software, a Brocade switch, Dell servers, QLogic Host Bus Adapters and mid-range storage arrays.
