hydriodic acid [′hī·drē‚äd·ik ′as·əd]
(inorganic chemistry)
A yellow liquid that is a water solution of the gas hydrogen iodide; a solution of 59% hydrogen iodide produces a liquid that is constant-boiling; it is a strong acid used in organic synthesis and as a reagent in analytical chemistry.

Hydriodic acid has been illegal for years, so drug makers have begun acquiring iodine to make it, officials said.
First, the cooking stage where the chemicals ephedrine, hydriodic acid, and red phosphorous are mixed and heated at various stages for about 12 hours and then strained to remove the red phosphorous, which is not water soluble and is fatal in large doses.
Inside the home, deputies found a glass laboratory flask, rubber tubing, and chemicals believed to be red phosphorus, ephedrine and hydriodic acid, all used in manufacturing methamphetamine.
