(inorganic chemistry)
H2SiF6A colorless acid, soluble in water, which attacks glass and stoneware; highly corrosive and toxic; used in water fluoridation and electroplating. Also known as hydrofluorosilicic acid; hydrofluosilicic acid.

Some have hypothesized that community water containing sodium silicofluoride and hydrofluosilicic acid may increase blood lead (PbB) concentrations in children by leaching of lead from water conduits and by increasing absorption of lead from water.
EPA has stated (27) that it regards the use of waste hydrofluosilicic acid, recovered from phosphate fertilizer manufacturing, in fluoridation systems as "an ideal environmental solution to a long-standing problem," because "water and air pollution are minimized, and water utilities have a low-cost source of fluoride available to them.
The chemical used in 90% of the fluoridation systems in the United States, and is likely to be used in most of the systems in California, is hydrofluosilicic acid or its sodium salts.
