iPhone jailbreakingRemoving the restrictions in an iPhone in order to gain access to the iOS operating system. It enables modifications to the look and feel of the device and allows applications to be installed that are not available through Apple's App Store (see Cydia). Numerous utility apps are available to jailbreak specific Apple devices.
The Android equivalent is "rooting," but not for app launching. Android accepts all kinds from multiple sources. It is done to install a different OS version or make custom tweaks by gaining administrator access. (see Android rooting). See app launcher.
