laryngotracheitis [lə¦riŋ·gō‚trā·kē′īd·əs]
(medicine) Inflammation of the larynx and trachea. Laryngotracheitis simultaneous inflammation of the mucosae of the larynx and trachea. Laryngotracheitis is caused by a viral infection. The condition is observed mainly in children. It is manifested by a severe cough, usually with abundant discharge of sputum. Laryngotracheitis is treated by applying warmth to the neck and mustard plasters to the chest, by drinking warm alkaline fluids with milk or by alkaline inhalation, and with hot foot baths.
