IPO

(Initial Public Offering) The first time a company offers shares of stock to the public. While not a computer term per se, many founders, employees and insiders of computer companies have found this acronym more exciting than any tech term they ever heard.

The web site and newsletter are the initial offering of the "EE Times Europe" integrated media product announced in April that will be complete when the print and digital editions launch in September.
Expected to trade in the $21 to $22 range, the stock's initial offering traded at $23 and rallied to $30 at the close of its first day of trade June 14.
With the disappointing results of the initial offering for 1-800-FLOWERS' online unit and the corresponding drought of Internet IPOs in August and early September, some investors are looking to this week's crop as indicators of the future for other Internet IPOs.
