inner harbor [¦in·ər ′här·bər] (geography) The part of a harbor more remote from the sea, as contrasted with the outer harbor; this expression is normally used only in a harbor that is clearly divided into parts, by a narrow passageway or artificial structure; the inner harbor generally has additional protection and is often the principal berthing area.
