A review of the literature suggests that 7%-50% of inpatients committing suicide were on continuous observation at the time, according to Dr.
VAMCs use a patient classification system (PCS) to determine RN staffing on inpatient units by classifying inpatients according to severity of illness to determine the amount of RN care needed.
Since the aim of rehabilitation is to prepare people for function on discharge from hospital it is of interest to compare activity patterns of inpatients with those of community-dwelling older adults.
