Voucher specimens were prepared in ethanol, and identifications were reviewed at the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology, Nairobi.
Models of insect physiology suggest that the higher atmospheric concentrations of oxygen, as well as the increased air pressure that resulted, would have increased the diffusion rate of oxygen into an insect's bloodstream as much as 67 percent.
The likes of Professor Thomas Odhiambo of Kenya, founder of the International Center for Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE), and founding president of the African Academy of Sciences, or Nigerian born Dr Philip Emeagwali who first entered the limelight in 1989 when he won the prestigious Gordon Bell Prize for his work with super-computers, are just two examples of African scientists of world-wide repute.
