(industrial engineering)
The critical examination of a product to determine its conformance to applicable quality standards or specifications.

inspection
1. Examination of work completed or in progress to determine its compliance with contract requirements.
2. Examination of the work by a public official, owner’s representative, or others.
3. The process of measuring or checking materials, workmanship, or methods for conformance with quality controls, specifications, and/or standards.

(testing)inspection - A formal evaluation technique in which software requirements, design, or code are examined in detail by a person or group other than the author to detect faults, violations of development standards, and other problems.
