The federal law set a deadline of June 2006 for all instructional paraprofessionals in Title 1 schools--those with high-poverty populations--to meet a "highly qualified" requirement, otherwise they would be deemed ineligible to hold instructional positions in such schools. Self-modeling by watching video-recorded instructional activities, and self-monitoring using the Self-Efficacy and Evaluation Scales were conducted as methods of self-regulation. The authors contend that the current paradigm of school reform has fundamental limitations with regards to student achievement, the most critical being a gap between student academic expectations and the classroom instructional practices that influence student learning. |
