On March 31, 2000, the last day of the Class Period, Conseco announced that it would take a charge of approximately $350 million because the value of Conseco Finance's interest-only securities had to be written-down.
2Q98 charges include: (1) $148 million in merger-related costs, including investment banking, accounting, legal and regulatory fees, and severance and other costs; and (2) non-cash charges totaling $350 million to write-down the carrying value of Green Tree's interest-only securities and servicing rights.
