A pleiotropic cytokine produced by bone marrow-derived fibroblasts which supports the growth of certain cell types, such as B cells, neutrophils, and platelet-producing megakaryocytes. Abbreviated IL-11.

March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Schering-Plough Corporation (NYSE: SGP) today announced that it has entered into an agreement with American Home Products Corporation (NYSE: AHP) under which Schering-Plough, through affiliated companies, transfers all rights, obligations and interests related to interleukin-11 (IL-11) to affiliated companies of American Home Products for an undisclosed cash amount.
Other strategic alliances include agreements with Sandoz Pharmaceuticals to develop and market 'Leucomax' (GM-CSF, or granulocyte macrophage colony stimulating factor); with Genetics Institute for two biotechnology compounds -- interleukin-11 and M-CSF; with Shionogi for the oral antibiotic 'Cedax'; with Cephalon for Alzheimer's disease treatments; and with Agouron Pharmaceuticals for technology to develop cancer drugs.
Through an agreement with Genetics Institute, two other biotech products are under development -- M-CSF, which Schering-Plough would market internationally only, and interleukin-11 (IL-11).
